The Great British Beach Clean is taking place between September 15-18. Organised by the Marine Conservation Society, it's their flagship annual event and their website carries a list of local events that you can join.
For the first time, many of the plastics removed from events will be sorted and recycled, giving them a second life as new products. Rigid plastic and cigarette stubs collected on cleans will be turned into shampoo bottles and advertising boards with TerraCycle.
Don't forget, the High Tidiers: West Kirby Clean-up Crew organise fortnightly litter picks at West Kirby beach until the end of October. If you would like to take part, the High Tidiers meet at West Kirby Beach at the bottom of Dee Lane, West Kirby at 10am on the following dates: Sunday September 17, Sunday October 1, Sunday October 15. and Sunday October 29. All welcome. Find them on Facebook.
Meanwhile, in Wallasey, the award-winning New Brighteners are holding their beach clean event on Saturday, September 16 (meet at Fort Perch Rock car park at 3pm). Also see Facebook 'The New Brighteners' for more info.
