Get into work in 2017

In January, Wirral View looked  at how the council and our partner organisations are helping local people get into work, education and training through a number of work programmes.

It’s not targeted at employment, but by encouraging people to get back in touch with their abilities, and build up their confidence, Birkenhead-based Spider Project’s ‘Move on Up’ programme often helps people to feel ready to work.

Move On Up involves people in confidence building, community radio, dance, football, politics, dress making, yoga, as well as employability training, CV preparation and interview skills. The scheme is open to people aged 18+ receiving ESA/Incapacity Benefit, with low to moderate mental health problems (diagnosed or undiagnosed).

Move On Up has been commissioned by Wirral Council because for people with low level or moderate mental health problems, traditional schemes often don’t help them back into work.

For details call Spider Project on 0151 647 7723 or email enquiries@spiderproject.org.uk. Jobcentre Plus can also refer you. Eligibility criteria apply.

Through 22 work clubs across the borough, Reach Out - the name for Wirral’s Worklessness Support Service – helps people who are over 30 get advice and guidance so they can find sustainable employment, or even become self-employed.

To access Reach Out, you need a UK address, be eligible to work in the EU and be out of work. You can drop into one of the work clubs or ask Jobcentre Plus to refer you. You can also call a Job Coach direct by contacting Involve Northwest on 0151 652 6406 or 0151 644 5459, Remploy on 0300 456 8044 or Wirral Change 0151 649 8177. The work club timetable is accessible on Wirral View by searching for ReachOut.
