Cockle beds at Leasowe open Sept 1

The North Wirral Cockle Fishery at Leasowe is open from September 1, after surveys showed there are a large number of cockles on the beach for the first time since 2010.

Permit requirements are in operation. Further details can be found here on the North Western Inshore Fisheries and Conservation Authority website.

The Council has been working as part of multi-agency effort to prepare for the opening of the cockle beds and ensure there is a co-ordinated response to any issues that may arise as a result of shellfish gathering activity.

Agencies will maintain a highly visible presence on site to ensure there is minimal disruption and that gatherers are operating within the conditions of the licence.

Further info about cockling in Wirral is available here.
