Ever wondered what really happens to your recycling after it has been collected?
This month, Bidston Materials Recovery Facility in Birkenhead will be hosting an open day to showcase how they use the latest technology to sort paper from cardboard, and glass bottles from tin cans.
Visitors will have the chance to see behind the scenes, take a tour of the facility, see the technology and machines and discover how the recycling they throw away is turned into something new.
Afterwards, visitors can explore the Recycling Discovery Centre for refreshments, plenty of hands on activities for children and top tips on how you can reduce, reuse and recycle your waste to help protect our local environment.
Government targets introduced to reduce the amount of waste we send to landfill each year means we have to recycle as much of our waste as possible.
Bidston Materials Recovery Facility dealt with 28,560 tonnes of Wirral’s kerbside recycling (collected from grey bins) from April 2016 to March 2017 - 91.7% of that was recycled.
The open day will be held on Saturday 29th July between 10:00am and 2:00pm at Veolia Bidston Materials Recovery Facility, Wallasey Bridge Road, Birkenhead, CH41 1EB. For more information and to book your free place, go to www.veolia.co.uk/merseyside-and-halton/community-focus/open-days
