At their first attempt, community group ‘Wallasey Village in Bloom’ won Silver Gilt Medal Award in the Royal Horticultural Society’s North West ‘Britain in Bloom’ Awards.
The award, for the ‘Best Large Village’ category, recognises volunteers' efforts throughout the year to provide planters, troughs and feature items - such as wheelbarrows and little boats - filled with flowers throughout Wallasey Village.
Chair of the group, Michelle Price, said: 'We are absolutely thrilled to receive this award, it wasn’t something we expected to win and we had an amazing day. We’ve worked incredibly hard this year to get the village blooming.
'Suzi, Anne, Leah, Val and I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone. We couldn’t have done it without the backing from local businesses, supportive comments and donations from local people – which kept us going, also our lovely enthusiastic helpers who have been amazing and got stuck in when we needed more help. We are now looking forward to next year.'
